Can we just take a moment to talk about Effie’s expression here.
She grew up in the Capitol, the winners of the Hunger Games throughout her life were basically celebrities to her. But she’d never before gotten the chance to actually work closely and personally with them.
Finally she gets not one, but two winners, from District Twelve. Sure one of them has bad manners, doesn’t care about her hygiene and appearance as much as Effie thinks she should, but they are still her victors. Effie grew to love her victors and care for them as people as much as she could. And now she’s expected to put on that happy smile and re-reap her two victors (or one of her victors and Haymitch- but let’s face it she knows that Peeta will voulenteer if not reaped.) for the Quarter Quell. She can’t even pretend to be happy about this.
Effie. Who always was looking at the positive side of everything. Effie who thought that having dessert was enough to overlook the gap in survival odds between districts One and Twelve. Effie who honestly believed that being entered into the Hunger Games was an honor that anyone should be proud of. Effie Trinket, arguably one of the most put together and annoyingly optimistic characters in the series, can’t control her emotions in front of a crowd and on live TV.
I will never be over my Effie Trinket feels.
